FRUITS OF LABOUR

Click for a larger version This is a plaque I received for doing some volunteer work. During the course of it, I came to know a lot about Swami Vivekananda than I could have ever imagined, and many things surprised me. I have always been a bit passionate about my roots, and this was one of the reasons I went in for such service.

All's well that ends well... I am happy to say that our efforts over the past many months resulted in the first ever life-size statue of a Hindu figure in public view in Canada. Pretty neat, isn't it? Click here for photos of the statue investiture ceremony.

DEATH OF A PRESIDENT

I have just finished watching the "documentary set in the future", DEATH OF A PRESIDENT. This documentary film progresses as any other documentary movie, except that everything is enacted, and not real. It just amazes me how far people stretch their "freedom of expression". In a nutshell, president George W. Bush of USA is being killed by a sniper on 19th October 2007 in Chicago and the movie probes the killing in a manner which is as brazen as it could get. The movie does not mince words when it comes to naming corporates, individuals, countries, organizations, and the fact that this is a fictional movie makes it even more queerer. It would be interesting to see how this movie compares with Fahrenheit 9/11. While that was Bush-bashing all the way, this one takes a step further in killing Bush, yet supporting the policies of the Bush administration. Ironical, isn't it? It seems controversy is a good subject to invest in nowadays. Movie powerhouses in the world have produced enough run-of-the-mill movies showing lovers, gangsters, plots, sleaze, songs, drama... they have gone a bit stale. Controversy sells. Just stir up the emotions of audiences with subject close to their heart, throw in a few incidents, and voila! You have a box-office hit. Death of a president is yet another venture in the new genre of movies, "controversy".

"AMERICA! Hahaha... We love you! How many people are proud to be citizens of this beautiful country of ours? The stripes and the stars for the rights of men who have died for to protect? The women and men who have broke their necks for the freedom of speech the United States Government has sworn to uphold..."

JOINING THE BANDWAGON

Finally, it happened. Like thousands of others, I have joined the ever growing tribe of bloggers just for the sake of it. Why do it? To stir up emotions, to flaunt my achievements, to kill time, to have fun, to get recognition, to please my senses... it could be a variety of reasons, but just the fact that I might learn something out of it is what drives me. Any information available at the right place at the right time is priceless. People might also learn a thing or two here and there browsing through this blog, and you never know how information could be useful. What could I possibly learn? Well, I am here to find that out... I would update this space roughly every two days, so come back for more INFORMATION!
