MY DEAR GRANDMOTHER

Hello world,

I am back after a brief hiatus. I thought I should restart my blogging by mentioning about my dear old grandmother. I have not seen any other person with more brains than her. She could remember every person she has ever met, every incident (small or big) that took place, and that dates back to almost 1915, the year she was born. Talking to her makes your mind boggle with the wealth of information she has stored with her over the years. She is 91, and going on 92 now. And she's been gifted with a healthy life, and a wit and a talking tendency very few could match.

Name: Bhoomi (later changed to Janaki after she got married)

Children: 6 (Actually 8, 2 of them died within a few months of birth)

Now comes the interesting part...

Grandchildren: 14 (3rd generation)

Great grandchildren: 15 (4th generation)

Great-great grandchildren: 2 (5th generation)

There is a custom in our community that the fourth generation of pure boys (your son's son's son) should be first seen only through a "golden lamp", in a special ceremony arranged for it. She's had that privilege through her first son, whose son begot a son! Well, she's had the happiness to see 15 of her fourth generation offsprings, and the very rare honour of witnessing 5th generation kids, and that too two times!

As fate would have it, the first kid of the fifth generation proved to be a unique kid in that, she being a girl kept the female lineage intact. The fifth generation kid was my grand mother's daughter's daughter's daughter's daughter! This picture of five females was shown in many newspapers and magazines in Dakshina Kannada district. The other fifth generation kid was a boy. The knowledge that she possesses, and the information that her brain has, the experience through the ages makes her a supreme personality! I am indeed very much honoured to have lived with her from the day I was born! This is a picture taken during my recent trip to India. Another blog about my grandmother would follow soon!
