QUICK GUN MURUGAN... MIND IT!

"First I'll finish the sambar, then I'll finish you!"
"Mind it!"

Shashank Ghosh was the man behind the launch of MTV and Channel [V] in India all those years back. And the iconic characters, Quick Gun Murugan and Uddham Singh (created by Shashank Ghosh as well) found their way in their advertising campaigns. (Gaat eet... wogaaayy??)

Quick Gun Murugan is supposedly a hero in B-grade tamil movies, but he has reached iconic cult status now. He is a cowboy, yet very much a tamilian. Quick Gun Murugan is a trigger happy superhero who is famous for his knock-out punches (poor baddies!) and one-liners. Channel [V] had some advertisements with Quick Gun Murugan. And soon, some private firms (like BLACK KNIGHT beer) started their own versions of Quick Gun Murugan.

Check this out, and it will ring a bell.

There was a witty dialogue inside a bar in one of the advertisements "Pal kudikkara kulanthaigal BLACK KNIGHT kudicha GOOD NIGHT aayiduvaanga... MIND IT!"

With due respect to the purists, I now give a translated version... "If kids who drink milk drink BLACK KNIGHT (beer), they will be put to sleep (good night!)... MIND IT!"

There are some more videos like this one, and I am desperately looking for them.

Apparently, it is understood that Shashank Ghosh is doing a full length movie on QUICK GUN MURUGAN in tamil and telugu. Rajendra Prasad is in the lead role, and since he is a cowboy, he goes about protecting COWS and crusades against beef-eating! It is a total Rajini-inspired genre of "heroic movie" replete with leather boots, guns, villians, and girls.. (Rambha is the lead heroine!!)

A brief portion of the superhit OM SHANTI OM had this hilarious part where Shahrukh Khan plays the role of OMISWAAMI filming for.. you guessed right.. MIND IT! I haven't laughed like this in ages.

Again, the real fun is only understood by the tamil speaking audience who can relate to the humour better. Love it when SRK says "Naa romba... Nellai akki rakki katti patti.. bang bang!" "Thoo.. dai", "Enna vlaai.. Enna daii"

What to do? We are like this only... Enna Rascala? Mind it!

That was hilarious. I probably would have laughed more if I knew Tamil.

Every country has such a local character. For example, Chopper Read from Australia.
